Victim of Crettyard road accident named

The victim of the road traffic accident near Crettyard over the weekend has been named as Wayne O’Neill (38), a resident of Cloneen, Clough, Kilkenny.

Gardaí in Abbeyleix are investigating the fatal collision which occurred on the Ballylinan to Castlecomer Road (N78) on January 21 and are seeking the public’s assistance.

The collision between a car and the pedestrian occurred at Clonbrock, Crettyard, approximately 7 miles from Ballylinan, Co Laois, shortly after 10pm.

Mr O’Neill was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the mortuary at Portlaoise hospital. The 24-year-old female driver of the car was uninjured in the collision.

The road was closed for a time to facilitate a Forensic Collision examination, with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have been on that stretch of road between 9.50pm and 10.40pm to contact them in Abbeyleix Garda station on 057 8730580, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and appealed for anyone with information who hasn’t already come forward, to do so.
