Armed robbery at Portlaoise off licence

Gardai are appealing for information after a robbery at Cul na Mona

Gardaí are investigating a suspected armed robbery in Portlaoise on Thursday night.

The incident happened at around 8:30pm on Thursday when a man entered Egan’s Off Licence in Lyster Square.

Staff told Gardaí they were threatened with what appeared to be a handgun before the thief made off with a substantial quantity of cash from the till.

It is believed he was in and out of the premises in less than a minute.

He left the premises on foot in the direction of Peppers Lane.

Gardaí are examining CCTV footage and are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 057 8674100.
