Courtwood GAA were the big winners at the Laois Senior Scór in the Mountmellick Arts Centre tonight.

They took home three county titles with Kyle, Rosenallis and Clonaslee also bagged one each.

A total of seven clubs from across the county took part on the night with Michael Martin acting as MC once again.

Solo singing was first on the agenda with Kevin Byrne from Mountrath and Margaret Conway from Clonaslee competing. Kevin gave a powerful rendition of 4 green fields whilst Margaret chose a more traditional song of When Pat came over the hill which led her to take first place.

In the recitation section, Sinead Boland from Courtwood captivated the audience with her rendition of An Irish Mammy whilst Emma Phelan from Castletown gave a hilarious take of The Feis but it wasn’t enough to win.

In the Instrumental group section, Kyle played a lively jig and set of reels whilst Rosenallis played a polka and 2 jigs with the former taking the judges’ fancy.

In the Leiriú, Courtwood had the audience in stitches with their play called Home Sweet Home.

The table quiz saw four clubs taking part, as Courtwood, Camross, Rosenallis, and Kyle went to battle. In the end, it was Courtwood who came out on top with only one point separated the top two at the finish.

The winning teams in each event now go on to compete in the provincial championships. The Leinster semi-final is due to take place in Birr on Saturday March 11.

The Leinster final takes place the first weekend in April while Courtwood go straight through to the All-Ireland in the table quiz section.

Laois Scór Chairman Mr. Jody Conway thanked all for their attendance, whilst paying special tribute to all the performers on the night.

He also extended the very best of luck to Annanough and Borris/Kilcotton, who are both competing in the Scor na nOg finals this weekend in Belfast.
