Two Broke Divas: It’s almost communion season – we have your style sorted

Jumpsuits are huge this season and are very easy to wear.
Jumpsuits are huge this season and are very easy to wear.

With communion and confirmation season almost upon us, we’ve picked some of our favourite high-street dresses that won’t be too hard on the bank – all dresses come in under €77.

There is plenty to consider, and plenty to stress about when it comes to suitable and appropriate attire for Communions and Confirmations.

It’s not quite as dressy as a wedding, but far more dressy than a typical Sunday. You probably will want to cover up to some degree, not too much leg on show (or other body parts!), especially in the church. Budget and style are a priority in this column, so with all these factors in mind, we have put together a few Lookbooks to give you some inspiration.

Floral Warehouse Dress – €64

If you’re like me, and favour comfort but enjoy style, this wrap dress from Warehouse could be the perfect option. A flattering shape, sleeves to cover the upper arms, and easy to wear i.e, sit down without sucking it in, and eat your dinner in peace without worrying about a food baby.

Floral print is bang on trend at the moment too, perfect for this time of the year. The shoes and bag with the bow finish the look perfectly (both from House of Fraser).

Pink Warehouse Jumpsuit €77

This hot pink jumpsuit from Warehouse has a stylish yet sophisticated vibe. Jumpsuits are huge this season and are very easy to wear. There is no need to be afraid of them! This jumpsuit is perfect if you are self conscious of your legs and/or want to accentuate your waist, it’s bow detail will nip you in and the slightly flared legs will create a lovely hour glass shape. We styled it with rose gold clutch and heels from ASOS for a glam finish, or for a more muted finish pair it with grey, also from ASOS. Shop jumpsuit here.

House of Fraser Grey Dress €65

This is the type of dress that I would stop someone to ask them where they got it. It is beautiful! The combination of grey and pink is so pretty, it would be sure to garner a lot of compliments.

This midi body con dress will hug you in all the right places, but still be classy due to its length, shape and floral design (I’m not so sure you could eat a three course meal after mass in this one though!).

We styled it with grey shoes and a pink bag, both from ASOS. Shop this dress here.

Purple Oasis Dress €71

This wiggle dress from Oasis is quite similar to the first, from warehouse. However, this dress is a block colour which can be worn with many different combinations of accessories.

A Wiggle dress, unlike a wrap dress, has a small slit up the middle, this accentuates the legs, perfect for people who have an apple shape. It will drape over the mid section, discreetly cover up arms, but highlight those lovely legs!

This purple colour goes with most complexions and hair shades, especially important in this sun starved country of ours. Styled here with rose gold shoes and bagfrom ASOS. Shop this dress here.

River Island Black dress. €45

Not everyone is into print, jumpsuits, loud colours, so with this in mind we styled this little black number. On trend bell sleeves, off the shoulder, knee length.

A classically timeless dress that would won’t mind looking back on pictures in 15 years time! We styled it with two different pairs of shoes, one block sling back heel for comfort (House of Fraser), one sleek sandal (RI). The bag is from Ted Baker. Shop the dress here.

We hope that provided some inspo for you Mammys, aunts, Godmothers, who find themselves in the midst of planning your little ones big day.

The number one thing, no matter what the occasion, regardless of current trends, is that YOU are COMFORTABLE in what you are wearing. Although, that’s coming from me, where comfort is my number one priority in life. Did someone say tracksuit bottoms and hoody???

We hope you have a great day, no matter what you end up wearing, and create memories to last a lifetime.

Until next time,

Aoife and Louise x
