The international Rose of Tralee Maggie McEldowney from Chicago was in Laois today for a visit as part of her tour of Ireland.
She stopped briefly in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel and then the Laois Shopping Centre – both of whom are sponsors of the 2017 Laois Rose event – where she met staff from some of the shops.

And after posing for photos with midweek shoppers – and accepting an array of gifts from some of the shops – she kindly agreed to take part in a LaoisToday.ie video interview.
In fairness to Maggie she was great aul craic answering our very insightful questions.
After first giving advice to wannabe Roses (remember the deadline for entering the Laois competition is tomorrow, March 16), she also had a go at pronouncing some of the more unusual Laois place names and ranking three well-known Laois men in order of attractiveness.
Maggie will take part in the Dublin St Patrick’s Day parade on Friday before returning to Chicago.
