After weeks of build up, gatherings, meetings, planning, rehearsals and well-wishes, the countdown is finally over for the 2017 Laois Rose event.

Seventeen girls will go on stage this evening in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel where they will be interviewed by Brendan Hennessy. While this evening’s show is what the public sees, it is only part of the overall process of selecting the girl who will go forward to represent Laois at the international Rose of Tralee festival in August. A series of interviews take place with the girls in the lead up to tonight’s event and that forms a massive part in the judging panel’s decision.

Outgoing Laois Rose Kate Hyland will hand over her sash when the this year’s winner is announced which is expected to be at about 11pm.

The show is due to start at 7.30pm and there have been countless hours done behind the scenes by Laois Rose co-ordinator Lyn Moloney, who is in her first year in this role. Lyn also organised the Kilkenny event last weekend which saw 500 people cram into the Ormond Hotel and Tara Roche from Callan crowned the Kilkenny Rose.

A number of former Laois Roses will be in attendance tonight including Anne Marie Bowe, the first Laois Rose winner in 2004, who stepped down from her role as the Laois Rose co-ordinator earlier this year.

The LaoisToday team will be in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel this evening to bring you all the updates and we look forward to being there when the 15th Laois Rose will be announced.
