Flanagan welcomes €600K energy upgrade for Laois communities

Laois TD and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Charlie Flanagan has today confirmed that over €600,000 in funding has been secured for energy efficient upgrade projects in communities in Laois.

The 2017 Better Energy Communities Projects scheme, administered by the SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) was announced this afternoon.

‘”I am pleased with today’s announcement by my cabinet colleague, Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten TD that successful applicants in County Laois have been awarded over €600,000 under this year’s Better Energy Communities (BEC) scheme for community energy projects’’ Minister Flanagan stated.

“Included in this year’s successful applicants are Energywise Ltd who are active in promoting plans for energy efficient housing and a transport hub in Portlaoise. A number of both non-residential buildings and domestic households will also benefit under this project from measures such as heat pumps, boiler, window and door replacements and insulation and heating controls’’ he also added, speaking today.

‘’Many homes, businesses and communities across County Laois have improved the energy efficiency in their homes through Government grants in recent years and schemes such as the SEAI provide funding which allows people to carry out these important upgrades.

“I welcome today’s announcement that more people in Laois will benefit under this project and this is proof of the government’s commitment to combat climate change and achieve greater energy efficiency in homes and businesses across the country’’ Minister Flanagan concluded.
