Laois Athletics summer league to get underway

The Laois Athletics summer league gets underway on Thursday, June 8

The Annual Downeys Nissan Laois Athletics Juvenile Summer League commences this evening, Thursday, June 8, at Portlaoise College Track.

This programme is aimed at younger developing athletes, from U-9 up to U-17.

The programme feature Sprints, Long Jump, Throw-Ball and Turbo-Javelin.

Tonight’s event is hosted by Portlaoise AC, and sponsored by Downeys Nissan.

The first event is at 7pm – and hopefully the weather will improve during the afternoon.

Upcoming fixtures in this summer league are as follows

 

Day 2 – Monday, June 19: Vicarstown, hosted by Oughaval AC
Day 3 – Thursday, July 13: Emo  Hosted by Emo-Rath
Day 4 – Monday, July 24 – Ballyfin (at Portlaoise Track) (Programme to follow)

For this evening’s event the schedule us as follows:

Athletes Born 2011 and 2010: 50m Sprint and Long Jump Athletes Born 2009 and 2008: 200m and Throwball
Athletes Born 2007 and 2006: 60m Sprint and Long Jump
Athletes Born 2005 and 2004: 300m and Turbo Javelin
Athletes Born 2003 and 2002: 80m Sprint and Long Jump
Athletes Born 2001 and 2000: 100m and Long Jump

Entries are on the night, at €2 per child.

“Keeping Laois walking, jogging, running, sprinting, jumping and throwing,” say the organisers.
