Vacant liaison officer position leading to anti-social behaviour

Calls for the tenant liaison position to be filled after calls of anti-social behaviour

A vacant liaison officer position in the Laois County Council is leading to a rise in anti-social behaviour amongst unruly tenants.

So a recent Municipal meeting heard from Fianna Fail Cllr Paschal McEvoy.

He said: “Anti-social behaviour is worse than it ever was because there is nobody there to solve it.

“The service that was there was working well but it is back to the lack of resources again.”

Chief of Housing, Ian McCormack, told the meeting that ‘the matter is currently receiving attention’ but Cllr Aidan Mullins said that this wasn’t good enough as the council’s tenant liaison service had been ‘non-existent for the last nine months’.

He said: “If there is a problem or a problem tenant, they are not visited or responded to.

“Then anti-social behaviour increases and other tenants are left angry and frustrated.

“The liaison officer used to be on top of dumping. Now we have rats with the accumulation of rubbish.

“It comes back to housing and the Council’s couldn’t-care-less attitude. When complaints come in to the council, they are not being followed up on.

“If there is a part at 4am and there is a complaint, the complaint is not being followed up.”
