The Entente Florale judges had to be seriously impressed with Abbeyleix during their visit on Friday.
They were given a tour of all the town’s scenic spots throughout Friday, had the red carpet rolled out for them wherever they went and were fed and watered from morning til night.
As if that wasn’t enough they were entertained by a variety of different performers. One of the final acts of the day (excuse the pun) was in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel where the Spink Comhaltas group provided some of the entertainment.
And Rachael Bonham brought the house down with a wonderful rendition of the song ‘Abbeyleix’. Many might know it as ‘Lovely Laois’ but the wonderfully talented Rachael told the gathering that it was originally wrote as ‘Abbeyleix’.
For Abbeyleix people – at home and abroad – it is sure to make the hairs stand on the back of your neck.
