Here at LaoisToday we’ve complied a list of all the hottest events and attractions around the county this bank holiday weekend.

FRIDAY 4 AUGUST
  • The Durrow Scarecrow Festival continues throughout the weekend.
  • An Sean Chistin in Ballyfin are holding a sean-nós and brush dancing workshop from 11am to 4pm.
  • Round 2 of the SHC ‘A’ championship kicks off as The Harps play Shanahoe in Mountrath at 7.15pm.
  • Minor Football semi-finals take place with Stradbally Parish Gaels playing Portarlington in Ratheniska at 7.30pm while Clonaslee St Mammans take on The Heath in Mountmellick at 7.15pm.
  • In the Ladies Senior Football Championship, Portlaoise play Sarsfields in Rathleague at 7.45pm.

SATURDAY 5 AUGUST
  • Dancing continues at an Sean Chistin for their set dancing workshop from 11am to 4pm.
  • The Ladies Senior Football Championship weekend continues as Timahoe play St Brigids in Annanaough at 12pm.
  • There is plenty of action in the SHC as Portlaoise play Rathdowney Errill in O’Moore Park at 6pm which will be followed by Borris-Kilcotton v Clough Ballacolla at 7.30pm.
  • In the SHC ‘A’ Ballyfin Gaels play Rosenallis in Mountrath at 7pm. A link to all the GAA fixtures for the next week can be found here.
SUNDAY 6 AUGUST
  • Stradbally Steam Rally is back again this year from Sunday 6 to Monday 7 August.
  • Ballacolla is hosting their family day, Laois’s Fittest Family and the Midlands Donkey Derby in Talbot’s field today.
  • The Rock GAA are holding their family fun day from 2pm to 6pm.
  • Ballyfin community centre is holding a traditional session at 7pm.

MONDAY 7 AUGUST
  • Abbeyleix are holding their annual Garden Fete which starts at 2pm.
