Abbeyleix awarded Entente Florale Silver award

Abbeyleix has taken a silver award and a special President’s prize for biodiversity for Abbeyleix Bog at the Entente Florale Europe awards tonight in Slovenia.

The market town showed its pedigree by winning a highly coveted silver award.

“You were one of the first rural towns in Ireland to get electricity and the Entente Florale judges found that you are still a shining light and for that you are awarded a silver medal,” the host announcer said.

The 5-strong delegation have spent an action packed day sightseeing in the beautiful town of Olimje, Slovenia.

The delegation have been treated to visits to The Church of Mary’s Assumption and Olimje Castle amongst other sites in  advance of this evening’s Prize giving ceremony.

The award marks the culmination of months of work by the committee from Abbeyleix.

And the work isn’t over yet! They have an early start in the morning at they will be manning a stand showcasing the best produce that Abbeyleix has to offer in the local market.
