Almost 2,000 homes without water in Rathdowney

Areas in Portarlington are without water

Around seventeen-hundred people are currently without water in Rathdowney.

Irish Water says the public supply has been hit by a power outage at the Galmoy treatment plant and it is working with the ESB to rectify the problem.

It is understood that there was some disruption to water which was previously connected with issues at the Galmoy treatment plant.

A tanker has been located at The Square in Rathdowney

Customers are being advised that they must bring their own containers and boil the water before consumption as a precaution.

Restored

Power has been restored to treatment plants in Shinrone, Rhode and Mountrath but 73 people in Coolderry are without supply.

Speaking on Midlands 103, John Gavin, Irish Water’s Regional Operation lead, said they are bringing bottled water to homes affected.
