Gardaí investigating robberies at opposite ends of the county

Gardaí have launched investigations after two robberies occurred yesterday at opposite ends of the county.

One incident took place in Ballymorris Manor in Portarlington at around 4pm.

Gardaí say a juvenile has been arrested in connection with this and some property that was taken has been recovered.

The second robbery  took place at Burg, Colt near Ballyroan between 5 and 9pm.

Preliminary investigations indicate that nothing has been taken from this house as yet.

The robberies come a day after it was revealed that criminals were also active during Hurricane Ophelia.

The Coffee Pot shop in Mountmellick was broken into during the storm.

While in a separate incident, a woman had her handbag taken in Mountrath.

Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station.
