Over 25 exhibitors expected at careers night in Portlaoise next week

Third level colleges from all over the country will be in attendance at a careers night in Portlaoise next week, an event aimed at the students and parents now in their Leaving Cert cycle.

Portlaoise College, in association with People First Credit Union, are hosting a Career and College Exhibition on Tuesday, October 24.

There will be over 25 exhibitors attending including all the major Universities, Institutes of Technologies as well as PLC and Agricultural Colleges.

In addition, there will be information on Adult Education, Apprenticeships, the Defence Forces and careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths).

The exhibitions provides students with the ideal opportunity to meet representatives from the various colleges as they gather information about their career choices.

Furthermore, financial advice will be available from People First Credit Union. Finally, there will be some presentations running on the night covering such topics as the transition from post-primary to third level education and choosing a career path.

Speaking at the launch of the event Principal of Portlaoise College, Noel Daly, said, “We are delighted to be hosting this event for the second time. This is a wonderful opportunity for learners in the Portlaoise area to access information which can help them make wise post school choices”.

Carol Dempsey, speaking on behalf of People First Credit Union, said, “This event is free to all and offers an exciting opportunity for students, parents and adults to attend such an exhibition.

“We are thrilled to be supporting the event and will be available on the night to offer financial advice.”
