Our ‘Remember the Game’ series is proving to be a very popular weekly slot.

Last week we told the story of a Laois hurling win over Kilkenny in 2010; before that we had the 1999 Laois U-21 football final; we also had a South Leinster Schools Football final between Heywood CS and Ballyfin College in 2000.

This week it’s not just a match we’re remembering although Portlaoise AFC ‘B’ did draw 1-1 with Mucklagh. There’s also a jersey presentation from two of the club’s sponsors at the time.

Interestingly, among the action pictures is a certain Aengus Burke who is described in the captions as a ‘veteran’. Seventeen years later he can be seen on an almost daily basis out running in Portlaoise and is also a regular on the local athletics scene.
