Portlaoise continued their good form with a home win over Dublin side Hartstown/Huntstown in Rossleighan Park tonight.

It is a win which temporarily moves the Laois side top of the table but the team who sit one point behind them, St James Gate, have three games in hand.

Portlaoise AFC, who beat Ballyfermot United 5-0 on Sunday, got off the mark after 13 minutes when Colm Poole found the net.

They doubled their advantage five minutes later through Jimmy Dermody and it looked like another comfortable evening was on the cards.

However, the Dublin side hadn’t driven down the M7 for nothing and they grabbed one back from a penalty after 37 minutes and it stayed 2-1 when the sides went in for half time.

But Portlaoise were not about to give up their advantage and they made the game safe when Jason Murphy, who scored four goals at the weekend, bagged his fifth in two games midway through the second half.

This strike, coming in the 64th minute, was Murphy’s 19 of the season which is an incredible tally with so many games still to play.

Both sides had chances to score before the end but it remained 3-1 to Portlaoise as their relentless march continues.
