Spirits high at Portarlington parade despite the rain

It might have been raining but Portarlington weren’t deterred as the town staged a very successful parade.

It was a case of tally ho for the parade as the local equestrian enthusiasts led from the front in Native American costume.

Three star athletes Seodhna Hoey, athletics, Nicole Turner, swimming and Kayleigh Woods had the honour of leading this year’s parade.

St Patrick took time to wave to the crowds before a host of entries followed.

Certainly there was great participation from the youth of the town as he local scout troop was followed by Muddy Puddles Pre-School. Other participants in the parade included Ar nÓige Pre-School, Portarlington After School Club, Scoil Rince Lar na Tire, Banríon Gaels Camogie, Burbage Irish Dancing, the band from St Patrick’s Boys NS, Gracefield GAA, McDonnell School of Irish Dancing, Laois Hospice – complete with guests from Fr Ted (down with that sort of thing) – O’Dempsey’s GAA, Arlington AFC, St Michael’s Athletic Club and the Little Theatre School of Drama.

The parade also boasted a considerable amount of vintage cars, tractors and entries from local businesses.
