Dachshund dogs worth €6,000 stolen from Rathdowney

Garda

A garda investigation is continuing into the theft of three dachshund dogs from Mooreville near Rathdowney, which are valued at €6,000.

One of the dogs returned to the house shortly after the three dogs disappeared.

“We believe the dog got scared by the suspects and managed to get away and return to the property,” a garda spokesperson said.

“These dogs are very valuable and come from a very well sought-after bloodline,” the garda spokesperson added.

The dogs were in a shed toward the rear of the property.

The incident occurred at approximately 22.40 on April 4.

The investigation is progressing and gardai are keen for anyone who saw anything suspicious on that night to contact them at Portlaoise Garda Station – 057 8674100.

As the dogs are such a small breed, they could easily have been carried off by the suspect(s).

However, gardai do believe that transport was used to get away from the area.

The dachshund is a short-legged, long-bodied, hound-type dog breed.
