All set for Darkness into Light in Rathdowney and Mountmellick

Darkness into Light particpants at last year's event in Mountmellick

The final touches are being put in place for two Darkness into Light events in Laois which are expected to attracts hundreds of participants.

Rathdowney joins the event this year for the first time, with the event starting at 4.15 am from the Square early tomorrow morning (May 6).

Participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes before the start time in Rathdowney. Please allow time for parking which will be available at The Square and SuperValu car park.

Each participant must have a torch for health and safety reasons.

There will be no storage for personal items during the event, so those taking part are asked please come ready to walk/run.

Please respect traffic wardens and event signage, and follow instructions on arrival. Participants are also urged to help organisers keep venues clean and place any litter in bins provided.

There is also a 4.15 am start in Mountmellick, from Mountmellick GAA Clubhouse. Similar arrangements are in place and again those taking part are asked to bring a torch.

Parking will be provided in Supervalu, MDA Car Park or the National School.

Participants should note there will be no parking in the venue or on the road outside, due to health and safety reasons.

Car parks will be sign posted on the day.

Those taking part must bring proof of registration (either printed or on your phone).

Pieta House

The money raised through Darkness into Light helps to keep Pieta House’s life-saving counselling services free.

It also helps Pieta House develop its research and broaden its services so they we can reach those who need them and tackle the stigmas that lead people to the doors of Pieta House.
