Laois County Council have confirmed that the street lights at Mountrath Community School will be working within a couple of weeks.

The May meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal District was told on Thursday morning that Laois County Council have applied for a new connection to the ESB Networks.

“Once connection is completed these lights will be energised,” was the council’s response to a motion from Cllr James Kelly calling for the 12 street lights to be reconnected as “a matter of urgency”.

“It’s a very dangerous situation,” said Cllr Kelly. “There was a petition by the students in the school which was was signed by 800 people. It was very unsafe and I’m happy that it’s going to be resolved.”
