Funky Cafe in Portlaoise Educate Together NS is a roaring success

Portlaoise Educate Together NS raise over €700 with the launch of their Funky Cafe

Tim’s 5th class students continued to show their entrepreneurial skills with the introduction of the Funky Cafe to the school on Friday last.

After the roaring success of their paper craft fair back in April which raised over €1000 for the school, the children decided to re-invest a small amount into a new fundraising idea the PETNS “FUNKY CAFÉ” was born.

Open for one day only, this Café is not your ordinary Café, this is a Café created by children for children! Features included: A Fruit Cocktail Bar, Cake Zone, Photo Booth, Pool Tables, DJ and Dance Floor and Graffiti Walls and table you were encouraged to draw on.

Entry for parents and all pupils in the school was only €2, this gave each entrant a complimentary drink and cake and a ticket into a raffle. Tim Stapleton said, “this is a project the kids were really passionate about. Their idea was to create a relaxed, fun and enjoyable experience for the other children in the school.

“Really their whole motivation was to flip the idea of a traditional adult themed coffee shop and make a kids version which was colourful and full of energy’. The atmosphere was just that, with both parents and children having a great day of fun and a bite to eat! The total amount raised was over €700 for the school.”
