More than €10,000 has been raised for two worthy charities following the Mark Attride Memorial Cycle which took place last weekend.

All the proceeds raised will be shared between the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association and St Clare’s Hospitality Food Kitchen.

Mark lost his battle with Motor Neuron Disease in November 2015.

He was a lecturer in IT Carlow and was heavily involved in the local sports scene.

He was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in February of 2014 and he orgainsed a major fundraiser that year where almost €50,000 for the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association was raised.

The cycle was done in two stages with riders completing the first 167km leg when they finished up in Athlone at 5pm on Saturday evening.

The weather was challenging but everyone made it across the line.

Many of Attride family took part in the cycle including Mark’s sons Simon and Stephen and his siblings Dominic and Mary.

It was Mary’s first time to Cycle over 100km and it has to be said that she put in an impressive display.

The cyclists arrived back in Killeshin around 3.30pm on Sunday where large crowd was there to cheer them across the finish line.

Fair play to all who raised a considerable amount of money in the process.
