Road closed on Laois-Offaly border after early-morning crash

Gardaí are on the scene following the incident

Traffic diversions are in place and emergency services are at the scene following an early-morning car crash near Portarlington.

The two-car crash happened on the Portarlington to Bracknagh road about 1km outside of Portarlington.

One person is believed to have been injured and the road is closed with diversions are now in place.

AA Roadwatch confirmed that the R419 road to Bracknagh is closed on the Portarlington side on the turnoff for Walsh Island.

This follows on from two collisions yesterday on the M7 near Portlaoise. The incidents happened at Clonkeen and Togher and the motorway was closed for a short period.

Neither collision was said to be serious but both are under investigation.
