Ophelia doesn’t deter criminals in Laois as Gardaí launch appeal after robbery

Despite the fact that Ireland was gripped by the worst storm to hit us in decades yesterday, crimes were still committed.

Gardaí are appealing for information after a burglary took place in Mountmellick yesterday.

The incident occurred at the Coffee Pot, Mountmellick, early in the morning.

Gardai are investigating and appealing for witnesses or those with information to come forward.

Later in the day, and in a separate incident, a 19-year-old woman was robbed of her handbag and assaulted.

This took place at Centre Point in Mountrath at around 5.30pm.

The woman sustained minor injuries and was said to be very frightened after the ordeal.

A 27-year-old male was charged and is being brought to court this morning.
