People asked to stop posting about Garda checkpoints

Gardaí are on the scene following the incident

Members of the public are being asked by Gardaí to stop posting the locations of Garda checkpoints.

Laois crime prevention officer Graham Kavanagh said that while people think they are aiding their friends, they are actually helping criminals.

He said: “I am asking people to stop posting checkpoint locations and using Viber, Whatsapp groups and other social media to disclose locations of Garda checkpoints.

“This is done by both people that think they may be helping their friends and neighbours and also criminals having using such schemes.

“Disclosing such locations potentially compromises the Garda Road Policing initiative and the safety of your community.”
