Complex explosive device made safe by Army Bomb Disposal team

A complex explosive device has been made safe close to the Laois/Carlow border.

The device was discovered just a number of miles from Killeshin, close to the N80 in Co Carlow.

The Defence Forces has confirmed it deployed an Army Bomb Disposal Team to Kilmeaney, Co Carlow this evening following a request from Gardai.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived on scene at 5.00pm and conducted an assessment of a suspect device.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team identified a complex viable improvised explosive device that was made safe at the scene through a controlled explosion.

Safe

The scene was declared safe at 6pm.

The remains of the device have been removed to a secure military location for further exploitation.

Any material with an evidential value will be handed over to the gardai to aid in their investigations.
