Death occurs of young man in Westmeath with strong Laois connections

The death has occurred of Eoin Miller in Westmeath after a short illness at the age of 34. Eoin had strong Laois connections with his father Jim originally from Vicarstown and his mother Mary (nee Sayers) originally from Timahoe.

He is survived by his wife Emma and young son Matthew as well as his parents, brothers Shane and sisters Emily, Ruth and Grace.

Eoin was well known in GAA circles in Westmeath having represented the county at underage level. He also captained his club Ballinagore to Leinster junior honours in 2005.

The club paid a moving tribute on their Facebook page.

“We in Ballinagore GAA are deeply saddened as Eoin was an active member of our club, both on and off the playing field, from his youth,” said the club on their Facebook page.

“A larger than life character, Eoin could be best described as a gentle giant. On the field of play, his physique was imposing but his style was that of elegance.

“Off the field, Eoin was an active committee member of our club for many years where he held various roles. He was always helpful, insightful and full of energy. He was particulary helpful and generous of his time with our younger footballers and they all looked up to him as a result.

“Words cannot express how saddened we are to hear this tragic news. Eoin was a soldier on the field of play and he soldiered his illness with great dignity and strength right to the end.”

He is reposing this evening in the chapel of rest River View, Kilbeggan from 4pm to 6.45pm. Removal thereafter to St. Stephan`s Church Tyrrellspass arriving 7:30 approx.

Requiem mass Sunday at 12noon with burial afterwards in Tyrrellspass cemetery.
