Laois comedian Bernard O’Shea has been revealed as the second star to take part in the next season of Dancing with the Stars.

The comedian and broadcaster, who admitted that he has a “genuine fear of dancing”, will be shimmying his way onto the DWTS dance floor in the New Year.

The Durrow native joins actress Deirdre O’Kane on season two of the RTÉ show.

There are nine more contestants yet to be announced for the dancing series which kicks off in January.

Nervous

“I’m feeling exceptionally nervous, but looking forward to the challenge!” he said of his participation.

“I don’t think my wife has ever forgiven me for not doing our first dance at our wedding. I have a genuine fear of dancing.

“If you were to ask me would you prefer to jump out of a plane without a parachute or dance on live television, I’d say how high is the aeroplane?

“Jennifer Zamparelli said to me I should step out of my comfort zone and that’s exactly what I’m doing,” he said.

“I think my dance partner will have her work cut out with me – but look, if she can make me dance, she can make anyone dance,” he said.

O’Shea’s Breakfast Republic co-host Jennifer Zamparelli took to Twitter to voice her excitement at the news, joking that since she’ll be on maternity leave while the show is airing she won’t be able to slag him.

“It’s so unfair. That’s just typical him now”, she wrote.

Amanda Byram and Nicky Byrne will be returning to host the new series of Dancing with the Stars which airs on RTÉ One for 12 weeks from 6.30pm on Sunday, January 11.

Last year’s competition was won by former Kerry footballer Aidan O’Mahony, against the odds. Other stars taking part last year included comedian Des Bishop, Fair City’s Aoibhín Garrihy, RTÉ sports Des Cahill.
