Tributes paid to the late John Joe Brennan

The death has occurred of well-known Portlaoise man and Fianna Fáil stalwart John Joe Brennan of Summerhill Lane and late of Rathleague, Portlaoise.

He passed to his eternal reward on November 28th.

Paying tribute, former minister of state John Moloney acknowledged the service he gave to the political party.

“He was a very active member of the Fianna Fáil party for many years,” he said.

“He was a former chairman of the Portlaoise Fianna Fáil cumann and was an active canvasser in county council and Dáil elections,” Mr Moloney said.

“He was an ideal canvasser as he was always well versed in party policy and was good with people. When you were out canvassing, he was an asset at all times,” Mr Moloney said.

Sympathy was also extended to the Brennan family from Portlaoise AFC.

Club

“We have a number of members of John Joe’s family in our club who are in our thoughts during this difficult time,” a social media post from the club read.

John Joe, was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen and dearly loved dad to Niall, Emma and Deirdre.

He was a cherished granddad to Tony, Brian, Gary and Konrad.

He is deeply regretted by his loving family, son-in-law Jarek, daughter-in-law Bernie, the Cashin family, aunt Kathleen, colleagues in An Post, relatives and his very many friends.

Requiem Mass took place at 10am on Friday morning in SS Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise.

Interment took place afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.
