WATCH: Snow returns during rush hour traffic

It was certainly a snow filled morning all over the county

Just when we thought the white fluffy stuff had gone, it has come back with vengeance.

Snow covered much of Laois this evening with Portlaoise almost grinding to a halt.

The snow came down just as people were heading home from work and school.

While it isn’t as bad so far as what we experienced earlier in the week, it still requires extreme caution.

A lorry went off the road near the Windy Gap in Stradbally causing disruption for a time but that has now been cleared.

And there will be no let up as Met Eireann are forecasting bad weather overnight.

They say: “Tonight will be cold and blustery with clear spells and occasional showers.

“The showers will be wintry in many areas, and most frequent across the north and west with isolated thunderstorms.

“Falls of hail and sleet are likely, with snow on high ground. Westerly winds will be very strong with gale gusts – especially near Atlantic coasts.

“Lowest temperatures zero to +4 degrees with frost in sheltered areas and a risk of icy patches.”
