Works to alleviate flooding on a road that leads to the train station in Portarlington will take place in 2018.

The announcement comes following a motion from Cllr Tom Mulhall at a recent Municipal District meeting.

He put forward a motion calling on the Council to put in place measures ‘to alleviate flooding outside David Prendergast’s house at Tierhogar, Portarlington’.

Cllr Mulhall said: “Not only outside this residents house that a quantity of water builds up, there are a lot of road users on it.

“It is particularly busy early in the morning when people travel on it to get to the train station.

“So it is inclined to flood and I look forward to this starting in 2018.”

Council engineer John Ormond said: “A topographic survey has recently been completed and a drainage design is currently being undertaken.

“It is anticipated that works at this location will be undertaken in quarter 1 of 2018.”
