Laois school doing their bit to help St Vincent de Paul

Portarlington BNS are showing their Christmas spirit by helping St Vincent de Paul this Christmas.

They are involved in the Reverse Advent Calendar Initiative.

The idea is a simple one. On the Feast of St Nicholas, December 6, each class would open a door on their class advent calendar and would then bring in the food item suggested behind the door.

Each class then created a Gift Box filled with food items that would be of help to those in the community for whom Christmas is a difficult time.

Donating hampers

Teacher Michelle Doran said that the school liaised with their local St Vincent de Paul and donated 8 large food hampers.

Ms Doran said that the boys were thrilled with their efforts and the real meaning of Christmas blossomed throughout the school.

She thanked all parents, teachers and pupils for their support in this initiative.
