Minister Harris wants public consultation on Portlaoise Hospital

Minister for Health Simon Harris TD ordered a consultation with the public on the future of Portlaoise Hospital.

Minister Harris today contacted Laois TDs Minister Charlie Flanagan, Deputy Sean Fleming and Deputy Brian Stanley today to say that he asked his Department to consult with local clinicians and the community in the New Year.

He also wants to confirm that no decision has yet been made on the draft Action Plan for Portlaoise Hospital.

Minister Harris said:

“It is regrettable that there has been confusion in recent days with regard to the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group Strategic Plan. This is not to be confused with the draft Action Plan for a new model of clinical service delivery in the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group.

“It remains the case, as outlined at a recent meeting with the Laois Oireachtas members, that I have not yet made any decision on the substance of the draft Action Plan.

“I have asked my Department to conduct a consultation process in this regard in the New Year with local clinicians and the community.”
