The Knockbeg Army were out in force last week as one of their longest serving teachers retired.

English teacher Mr John Behan walked out of Room 8 for the final time just before Christmas.

Behan has been an ever present in Knockbeg for the last few decades and has put thousands of students through his hands.

Teachers past and present turned up on the evening to pay tribute to Mr Behan for all he has done over the years.

Before Christmas, the Knockbeg Social Committee launched an appeal for former students to submit memories they had of their time with Mr Behan.

These memories were compiled into a book which was present to John on the night.

A keen athlete who competed and still competes in marathons, Behan is a man who has time for everybody and he is a character who Knockbeg will find impossible to replace.

All of us here at LaoisToday would like to wish John a very happy retirement also.

His retirement party was held in the Seven Oaks Hotel and thanks to Brian Stapleton, who is also a teacher there, for sending these pictures our way:
