Road users urged to exercise caution following overnight snow

Motorists in Laois are being asked to slow down this morning.

Some overnight snowfall has left some roads slippy and caution is advised.

The AA say that caution is advised on the M7 between Portlaoise East and Moneygall as there is snow and sleet in the area.

While other parts of the county are waking up to a sprinkling of the white stuff.

Met Eireann say: “Today will be a cold, bright day with gusty west to southwest winds.

“Although there will be long spells of dry weather with good sunshine, scattered heavy showers will continue to occur throughout the day.

“Most of these showers will fall as rain or hail but some will be more wintry over the higher ground. Highest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.”

But they say that the temperatures are due to fall back to freezing tonight.

“This evening and tonight will be mostly dry and clear with temperatures falling to around freezing and with a widespread frost developing.”

So take care folks!
