The recent ‘Beast from the East’ snowstorm has stressed the importance of local businesses to the community, according to a local TD.

Deputy Sean Fleming has called on the general public in county Laois and surrounding areas to support locally owned and managed businesses.

“We all saw during the recent bad weather that many small businesses kept open as long as they could to serve their local community,” he said.

“I think during these times people realised the value of these businesses which not only provide a service to customers but also provide good local employment.

“In most cases they are family run businesses and all profits from the businesses are used locally,” he said.

Queues

“We saw major queues during the recent bad weather at some of the major shops owned by multi-national companies,” he said.

“It is food for thought. It’s a time for people to think about shopping and supporting locally as in a crisis like Storm Emma we all knew the value of local community,” Deputy Fleming.
