Young farmers gear up for charity tractor run in aid of Pieta House

Portlaoise Macra na Feirme will once again host their tractor run in aid of Pieta House on Easter Monday April 2.

Last year’s event raised €1,600 for the charity – which works with those who have suicidal thoughts or who self-harm, as well as providing counselling to those who have lost loved ones to suicide.

A very important cause

Portlaoise Macra na Feirme’s Chairperson James Luttrell said they chose the charity as suicide is a matter that has impacted Macra members.

“We lost a member to suicide a few years ago and that affected us all,” said James.

The run will depart from the Rock Inn, Dublin Road, Portlaoise, at 12 noon.

Last year 64 vintage and modern tractors took part. This year, they are hoping to bring that number up closer to 100 vechicles.

Portlaoise Macra was founded in 1952 and has over 30 members. They also reached the All-Ireland Farm Skills final last year.
