Young Laois scientists lead the way at SciFest awards

Mountrath Community School came away with three awards at SciFest in Carlow IT on Wednesday 25 April.

Alice Carew and Aoife Dunne received two awards for their project ‘LULLUS’, a sound sensitivity solution aimed at children with autism and other neuro-developmental disabilities.

Science Foundation Ireland presented them with the Best Project Award and the prestigous Boston Scientific awarded them the Medical Devices Award.

Fellow MCS students Martin Fitzpatrick and Padraig Walsh received the BioPharmaChem Ireland Chemistry Award.

Mountrath also picked up the award of RSC School Chemistry Award from the Royal Society of Chemistry Education.

Students Jack Mallon, Emmet Conroy & Eoin Schuch also came in as highly commended by the judges.

Mountrath CS took to Facebook to thank teacher Caitriona Egan and all of their students who took part.

The future certainly looks bright for science in Laois.
