Dead animals being dumped on farmlands

The scene of the dumping incident

Dead animals are being tipped out by the truckload along with industrial scale dumping on farmers’ land.

This was a claim made by cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley at the recent Portlaoise municipal district meeting.

Cllr Dwane Stanley asked that cameras be installed in Ballytegan down to Knocknagroagh, Ridge Road, to deal with the mass illegal dumping problem.

CCTV cameras to be placed

In a written response, senior engineer Orla Barrett said that location has been included on the rota of sites for CCTV cameras.

The first placement will be in the incoming weeks, and then on rotation throughout the year.

Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald seconded the motion, while cllr Mary Sweeney said it was “despicable” to see this happening, particularly during the Clean Up Laois Week.

A colossal 32.22 tonnes of waste were collected by groups across the county.
