ACFL Division 1A

Graiguecullen lifted themselves out of the relegation zone as they picked up a second successive win this evening.

Padraig Clancy’s men travelled to Rathleague this evening and inflicted just a second defeat upon Malachy McNulty’s men.

It is a result that, coupled with St Joseph’s big win over O’Dempsey’s, means that the Town have been replaced at the top of the table by the Kellyville outfit.

In what was a close encounter throughout, Graiguecullen were thankful to Barry Regan for a slender first half lead.

His goal was the difference in the first half as they took a 1-4 to 0-6 lead at the interval.

Dean Cullen, Scott Lawless and Craig Rogers were on the scoreboard for Portlaoise while so too was Bruno McCormack when he was introduced in the second half.

But Jamie Parr was in fine for Graiguecullen and he kept the scoreboard ticking before Danny Alsybury’s goal gave the Barrowsiders a cushion they held onto for the remainder of the game.

Next up for Graiguecullen is a home tie with bottom side Ballylinan while O’Dempsey’s will be Portlaoise’s hosts next week.
