Deadman’s Dash back running for its sixth year this weekend

Ballyfin AC members at the Deadman's Dash run last year

The annual Deadman’s Dash event has always caused a great stir in Ballyfin and the surrounding areas and it is back for it’s sixth year this Sunday May 27 at 12.15pm.

Ballyfin AC host the event for runners of all abilities, and children can partake in the JuniorDASH and various kidsDash races.

Last year 150 runners took part in the Senior Dash with high numbers expected again this weekend.

Prizes and trophies

The first five Senior Men and Women will all receive medals and also up for grabs is the much coveted Johnny Ryan Memorial Cup, a perpetual trophy in honour of the great Ballyfin clubman Johnny Ryan.

The race starts about 1km from the Ballyfin community hall on the Portlaoise to Mountrath road, with plenty of parking around the hall.

Runners will take an anti-clockwise direction past the community hall and Ballyfin Demesne, around the Deadman’s Inn and end up at the finish line in front of the old school in Ballyfin.

It will be a mostly straight run with a few hills thrown in for good measure.

This will also be the fourth year of JuniorDASH, a competitive race for Junior boys and girls with prizes for the first three Junior boys and girls.

There will also be various kidsDash races prior to the main race, with each child receiving a medal for taking part.
