Two groups of Laois dancers came away from the Aldi Community Games National Finals with medals, including one gold, at the University of Limerick campus.

The two groups were representing Stradbally Community Games and County Laois, and their dance school was Buggie’s School of Irish Dance.

First up on Saturday morning were a very young U12 team, who were all below the age grad and will be able to compete again next year.

The group gave an amazing performance, earning them silver medals. They were Kate Sheridan,Rosin Whìte, Emily Traynor , Laura Greene, Niamh Clancy and Allayna Bradley.

The U16s were next to take to the stage, and they were looking to defend their gold medal from the last year. They did so in great fashion, beating old rivals Carrick of Leitrim by a single point.

The group members were Orla Sheridan, Bronagh Scully, Ellen Hennessy, Grainne McCaul, Chloe Mills and Caitlin Traynor.

Stradbally have had amazing success in this competition over the last few years. Three members of the U16 team Orla Sheridan, Grainne McCaul and Bronagh Scully, having come up through the ranks from U12, having won gold medals four times in the last six years.

Much of this success has been thanks to the hard working Buggie School of Irish Dance, with teachers Gráinne and Bríd Anne Buggie putting a huge amount of work to make these groups so successful.
