The local community raised an amazing €2,855 in just one night for the Portlaoise Educate Together NS (PETNS) fundraiser last Saturday May 26.

PETNS held the annual fundraiser in the Office Bar & Venue, with music from Transmitter on the night.

A happy coincidence

By chance, Liverpool also happened to reach the Champion’s League Final on the same night, much to the joy of parents and teachers alike.

The upsurge in tickets sales was phenomenal. Within a few weeks ticket sales had reached maximum capacity. As the venue can only hold maximum 210 guests the PA looked to the raffle for raising most of the funds.

Once again community spirit shone through with 20 local business donating substantial spot prizes on the night. These included a months free gym and pool membership for Club Vitae in the Maldron Hotel, free yoga classes with Mary Kavanagh Yoga and a €50 Lifestyle Voucher from the Lawlor Clinic.

Although the result didn’t go Liverpool’s way on the night, the crowds loved the evening all the same.

The night was a huge success with Stewart and the lads banging out tunes from every era of music. There was a lot of table dancing and the venue was tightly packed with enthusiastic punters.

This was the school’s second year to run the event with the help of Dave Finn from The Office Bar. Dave’s support and commitment to this event is unfounded. Dave and his staff did an amazing job to keep everyone in refreshments and the night went off without a single hitch.

The raffle was a huge success with 21 prize winners. PETNS said they are delighted with the success of the event and pleased to host a community event with encompasses the school’s ethos of inclusion.

Siobhan Mannion from the Parent’s Association said, “This event has taken off this year, it is proving to be hugely successful and is building momentum and a reputation. Who knows where it will go in 2019, the only way is up!”
