Laois school hosting event ahead of Leinster semi final

When Laois face Carlow on Sunday afternoon, a number of players on both sides will have come from the same secondary school.

Knockbeg College will have many representatives on the field from both Laois and Carlow.

For the O’Moore’s, former Knockbeg students include captain and current teacher Stephen Attride, Ross Munnelly, Colm Begley, Paul Kingston, Donie Kingston, David Conway, Damien O’Connor, Daniel O’Reilly and Michael Keogh.

While for Carlow, former pupils include defender Mark Rennick and forward Darren Lunney.

So the Past Pupils Union are inviting Knockbeg College students past and present to pre or post-match cup of tea or coffee at Jury’s Croke Park Hotel on match day to renew acquaintances and swap stories.

Inquiries can be made to 087-9162010 or 087-6384306.

Meanwhile, the revival of the union in Knockbeg continues as the AGM took place at the end of May.

President Charlie Flanagan was in attendance and recently retired teacher John Behan re-elected as Chairperson.

Meanwhile, at the weekend, in the college chapel before renovation a mass for past and present staff and locals, whose families would have attended a Sunday mass at 9am in years of boarding school, took place.

Monsignor Brendan Byrne, the Tullow chief celebrant, 69 years after his first mass as a first year student in Knockbeg, presided over the mass.

He was joined by Fr John Dunphy, Fr Dan Dunne, Fr Mick Noonan, Fr Sean Maher and Fr Bill O’Shaughnessy.
