The best barbecue steak burger in Ireland comes from Laois

We are famous for a lot of things here in Laois – and now we have another thing to be proud of.

A Laois butchers has won Butchery International’s best barbecue steak burger in Ireland.

Williams’ Butchers in Abbeyleix is giving away their award winning product to raise funds for Irish Cancer Society and Spina Bifida Ireland.

The event is running between 11am and 3pm at their shop on Main Street today.

Butchery Excellence International’s annual ‘All Ireland BBQ Championships’ was a roaring success.

The event, which was held on June 6 in Aughnacloy Golf Club, boasted over 100 applicants from all over Ireland.

And that wasn’t the only award that the Abbeyleix butchers took away on the night.

They came third in the All Ireland BBQ Championship, third in the BBQ Premium Steak Category, received a gold award for their Lamb Kebab (Spanish Flavour Sauce) and another gold for their Chilli Cheese Steak Burger.

Speaking to Midlands 103, owner Mark Williams says they are passing around the luck.

He said: “We had some luck in winning, so lets pass the luck around.

“They are two good causes and there isn’t a household in Ireland that hasn’t been affected by cancer at some stage I believe.

“As for Spina Bifida, there is a young girl here in the town and it was because of her that we said we would do it for that chairty as well.”
