In Pictures: Having a ball at Rathdowney’s family sports day

Rathdowney might be on the cusp of proving itself to be not just a hurling stronghold, but a stronghold in archery, cricket, rounders and even tug of war – given the brilliant displays on show today.

Rathdowney’s family sports demonstration day gave young and old the chance to experience all these different sports and fun activities and games for children.

This event was held in conjunction with Laois Sports Partnership and Rathdowney-Erill Activity Hub.

A whole weekend of events

And when the people of Rathdowney hold an event, they don’t just to it for one day, but three.

Friday night saw the return of Queen of the Erkina competition and an 80’s disco in the Brewery.

The Flare in the Square returns tomorrow, Sunday July 15, from 1.30pm until 6pm. A fantastic line up is promised including The Finns, Sweet Freedom, Outta Diesel, The Cheeky Dicks and many more.

Of course there will be many side attractions including Bouncy Castle, Face Painting, Bonny baby competitions and the glamorous Granny/Grandad Competition.
