Deep sadness in Stradbally as ‘club legend’ passes away

The late Michael 'Mick' Mulhare and his wife Deirdre

The village of Stradbally is in deep mourning with the sad news that one of its most popular sons has passed away.

Michael ‘Mick’ Mulhare was the President of Stradbally GAA club and his loss will be felt by everyone in the community.

His club Stradbally paid a heartfelt tribute to the great man this evening.

They said: “It is with deep sadness that our club received the news this evening of the passing of our club president Michael Mulhare.

“Michael was a player, secretary and chairman of stradbally gaa over a long number of years.

“It would not be wrong to call him a club legend.

“Deepest sympathy is extended to Michael’s family at this time and funeral arrangements will be announced later.”

Michael, who lived in Brockley Park. is survived by his wife Deidre and his four daughters Niamh, Micheala, Collette and Aoife.

Mick was the type of person who always had a word for everyone. He was a permanent fixture at all things Stradbally GAA and he will leave a gaping hole in the club.

Even as his health deteriorated in later years, Mick was always down at the pitch fixing what needed to be done.

It is very difficult to put into words just what an incredibly selfless and thoughtful man Mick Mulhare was.

May he Rest in Peace.
