Constant speeding complaints in Laois village lead to speed survey

Due to constant complaints over cars speeding throughout the village, a speed survey will take place in Timahoe.

Laois County Counci is undertaking the project this month and the results are expected to be available by mid-October.

The initiative follows a request by Stradbally to be carried out with a view to putting speed restrictions in place in Timahoe.

Cllr McEvoy said both council and residents had “tried everything” to resolve the ongoing problem of speeding in the village.

At the latest Graiguecullen-Portarlington Municipal District meeting he said: “We put in radar speed detection signs there, but drivers are still speeding. People are coming to me on a regular basis about this, so at least now we will be able to determine the speed of traffic and do something about it.”

Area engineer John Ormond said he arranged a speed survey and the council would consider traffic-calming measures based on the outcome.

The engineer said the results should be available in time for the next municipal district council meeting on 17 October.
