Laois dog shines bright in pet personality competition

A Laois dog charmed his way into judges’ hearts at the national Pet Expo in Dublin.

Archer from Portlaoise won the Jester category of the competition.

The nine-month-old Chihuahua is an aspiring model and adventurer. He brings smiles, laughter and happiness to everyone he sees and meets.

There were six different categories, the Thrill-seeker, the Jester, the Foodie, the Explorer, the Chaser and the Buddy.

Petmania have teamed up with Purina Beta to find Real Dogs Ambassadors who embody each different personality for the competition.

The competition aims to be unique in that it has emphasised the wonderful personalities’ dogs have, instead of the usual aesthetic and cuteness focused competitions.

Expert dog behaviourist Suzi Walsh applauded the Real Dogs campaign, saying: “I think Petmania’s Real Dogs competition is a great way of understand your dog more and appreciate that each dog has their own individual personality.

“It allows dog owners to realise how well they know their best friend.”
